Board of Directors

Nancy has been a BYSO parent since 2014. Her youngest of three is a current Youth trombone player. She has experience supporting middle and high school bands and was the president of the Redmond Band Boosters for 4 years. She joined the BYSO board in 2022 and is committed to supporting BYSO’s mission and helping lead the future growth of the organization. Nancy is a graduate of the University of Washington.

Justin Pae has recently joined the Bellevue Youth Symphony Board of Directors. He is the parent of a BYSO cellist and two, younger musicians-in-training. Justin is a graduate of Dartmouth College and is a multi-disciplinary designer who has worked in the music, television and advertising industries. He is currently a Product Design Manager at Microsoft. Outside of his work with BYSO, Justin is an avid tennis player, Seattle sports fan, and pop culture enthusiast.

Priya is the parent of a BYSO Sinfonia violinist. She has a Master’s in Computer Science from Western Michigan University and a Master’s in Business Administration from Santa Clara University. Priya is a Senior Director of Product Development at Dell Technologies and has extensive experience in leading teams as well as strategic business planning fro small to large organizations. She has been an active member at her daughter’s school communities as well communities with strong social cause (American Heat Association. Maitri). Priya is passionate about building long-lasting relationships and friendships. She believes that if you build strong bonds with people, the rest will follow.

Kathy Kearny, a Chartered Financial Analyst, is the mother of two BYSO alumni. Kathy holds an undergraduate degree in Economics and a Master’s in Public Administration with a certificate in non-profit management from the University of Washington. She joined the BYSO board in 2016.

Janani is a mom of two girls, with one attending BYSO’s Debut ensemble this year. Janani is Principal Technical Program Manager at Amazon, where she delivers key business and technology goals for the Replenishment business. Outside of work and BYSO, Janani loves to travel with her family to make lasting memories together. Whether it’s exploring new cities, hiking scenic trails, or simply relaxing on the beach, Janani cherishes the quality time spent discovering the world with her husband and daughters. Janani has also served on the parent council of her children’s school, Eton, for two years, contributing herexpertise to help guide the school’s strategic direction.

Kyle Kim has been a BYSO parent since 2021 and currently has two daughters playing in Premiere Orchestra and Percussion Ensemble.  He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania and is currently working as an aerospace engineer with 20-plus patents in the field.  He supports various youth development programs in the community and has been serving as a board member for the Puget Sound Speedskating club since 2023.  He joined the BYSO board in 2025 and is excited to support BYSO’s mission of inspiring young musicians.

Sun Lee has three children and has been a BYSO parent for three years. He is also the father of a cellist. He received his education at the University of Washington. He wishes to make a concerted effort to support and contribute to the community to which he belongs in any way he can. He co-founded the Lynnwood Sister Cities Association and contributes to a number of Korean-American non-profit organizations. For the past 20 years, he has owned and operated Olympus Spa in Lynnwood.

Xiaohua Ma recently joined the Board of Directors for the Bellevue Youth Symphony Orchestra. As a proud parent of a BYSO student, he brings both a personal connection and a strong commitment to the organization’s mission. Xiaohua holds a Master’s degree in Mathematics from SUNY Brockport and works as a Principal Software Engineer at Microsoft. Beyond his professional career, he actively participates in his son’s school community. He is committed to fostering community-building through BYSO’s mission.

Gary Purchase is the father of two BYSO students. He graduated from Imperial College in the UK, before working at Microsoft and AWS. He is an active participant in school engagement as well as his local sports clubs, believing that a strong education, sports, and the arts together make strong global citizens for the future. 

Janey Rabon has been a BYSO parent for eight years with two violinists.  She has an accounting/finance background and is currently a Corporate Development executive for cred.ai. Janey previously worked in large global corporations leading strategic multi-year Technology and M&A Integrations/Transformations. Outside of work, she enjoys photography, rock climbing (overcoming her fear of heights), traveling with her family, and enjoying music in its various forms (listening to music, attending concerts and musicals, or trying to play music too) and hopes to bring that same level of enjoyment of music to others as well.

Jennifer Yin is a dedicated parent of two students currently participating in BYSO. Her older son, a cellist, began his BYSO journey with the summer camp in 2022, while her younger son is a violinist. She holds a master’s degree in data Analytics from Penn State University and has experience in the e-commerce industry. For the past three years, she has been an active volunteer, assisting with rehearsals and concerts. A music enthusiast herself, she enjoys playing the piano and has a deep understanding of the orchestra’s activities and the needs of its young musicians. She strongly believes that BYSO provides a wonderful educational experience for young musicians.
