Premiere Orchestra Messages

Welcome to the 2025-2026 season at BYSO!

We are looking forward to meeting all of you soon and making great music with you throughout the season.  We will post important updates and information periodically throughout the quarter to help you prepare for our rehearsals and seating auditions.

PROGRAM FOR FALL 2025

  • Mozart Symphony No. 36, The “Linz”, 1st movement
    • Upon Mozart’s arrival in Linz on October 31, 1783, Count Thun asked him to write a new symphony for a private concert planned for five days later. Mozart completed this entire symphony in four days and the work was premiered on November 5, 1783. This pace of composing was pretty typical for Mozart as he already had all of the music in his head before he began writing.

  • Nocturne from “A Midsummer Night’s Dream”
    • Mendelssohn was commissioned by the King of Prussia in 1843 to write incidental music to Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Today, much of this music is enjoyed as stand-alone concert music as well as music for events like weddings.

  • Dance of the Tumblers, from “Snow Maiden”
    • Snow Maiden is one of Rimsky-Korsakoff’s many operas based on folk tunes and fairy tales. This opera depicts the everlasting opposition of forces between King Frost of winter and the Sun God of spring. The Dance of the Tumblers depicts the boundless energy and talent of the Russian street performers.

Seating Auditions- At Retreat on Saturday, October 26

We will hold seating auditions during the first half of our retreat. Please plan to attend so that our coaches can hear you play. If you are unable to attend the retreat, we will place you at the end of your section for this concert. We will have another seating audition during our Winter concert cycle- also at the retreat.

Please prepare these sections of your music and pay careful attention to the tempo, bowing directions, style, articulations, and dynamics. Your coach will listen for all of these elements during your audition. You will learn all of these things during your sectional times this quarter with your coach. Please prepare all assigned spots and be ready to play any of them for your audition. You will be asked to play one or two of the spots for each piece. If you have any questions about this, ask your coach or send me an email. Thank you!
