Repertoire

Holst: St. Paul’s Suite, Op. 29 (all four movements)

Violin 1 | Violin 2 | Viola | Cello | Bass

Grand Finale: Score only (everyone needs to print and bring a copy)

For this piece, we will be combined with the guest chamber choir, the church’s choir, and the church organist.
Instructions: Strings only play measure 108 to the end (you will notice it says BYSO strings). We will mirror what the chorus is doing, so violins (and violas reading treble clef), will play the soprano/alto line, and cellos and basses will play the tenor/bass line, dividing when appropriate.

With only rehearsal, it is imperative that you come to rehearsal on December 2 with the music prepared!

Frequently Asked Questions:

  • Can a student leave early/arrive late?
In short, no. With only one rehearsal, students who participate in this outreach performance must attend the entirety of the December 2 rehearsal and the dress/sound check rehearsal on December 15. If there are extenuating circumstances, please email musicdirector@byso.org.
  • Can parents/families come to the concert?
Yes! The concert is free and tickets are not required, but this event draws a lot of people, so it is recommended to arrive early.
  • What do I wear?
Dress for this concert is all black. Please follow BYSO guidelines regarding concert dress for Youth Symphony and Philharmonia orchestras.
  • Pick up/Drop off and parking at Trinity Lutheran Church
There is currently major construction happening at the church and parking is limited. It is recommended that parents pull up to the front entrance and drop off students there. For those who are leaving after dropping you off and coming back for the concert, our contact at the church had the following to offer for alternative parking locations:“While it won’t necessarily affect the performers and their affiliates arriving early, it will be challenging for those who are intending to arrive at 4pm. I think emphasis should be made on this fact. In addition to Safeway lot (walk is about 3-5 minutes), there is LA Fitness strip mall parking lot south of the church.. (this requires crossing an intersection).”
