BYSO Summer Operations Intern 2025

Overview

Bellevue Youth Symphony Orchestra (BYSO) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization in Bellevue, Washington, established to provide a unique and stimulating musical environment for Eastside youth seeking to advance their potential beyond traditional in-school programs. Now with eight large orchestras and three smaller instrumental ensembles, BYSO has been serving students in elementary through high school since 1964. BYSO is a thriving, fiscally stable organization with a dedicated Board poised to further its Mission:

BYSO focuses intensively on each student’s musicianship with a commitment to guide and support the whole person and uniquely complements and builds upon both school music programs and private instruction. Position

BYSO is seeking one young adult to act as the Summer Operations Intern.

The Summer Operations Intern will play a critical role in supporting BYSO during season auditions, the 4th of July performance, and summer camp. The role involves administrative support, event logistics, and direct interaction with students, staff, and families. The Summer Operations Intern will report to the Operations Manager, working closely with the Executive Director, Music Director, Advancement Manager, and Operations and Marketing Associate. 

This is a part-time position, working an average of 15-20 hours per week with a  maximum of 30 hrs/week. Hours are flexible within the 9-5 workday, but attendance is required at evening, weekend, and week day events related to BYSO activities, specifically including auditions on June 9-13th, July 4th rehearsals and performance, and summer camp Monday-Friday on July 7th-25th. 

Anticipated start date is 6/2/25 and anticipated end date is 7/31/25 (flexible).

Rate of pay will be $18 per hour.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Assist with event logistics, including setup, check-in, and teardown for rehearsals, concerts, auditions, and summer camp
  • Provide administrative support, such as building and maintaining Google rosters and schedules 
  • Help prepare physical supplies for summer camp, including but not limited to creating student camp folders, organizing t-shirts, and managing printed music
  • Serve as a room monitor for auditioning students at the 2025-26 Season auditions 
  • Assist the Admin Team as a site manager for 4th of July rehearsals and performance with setup, teardown, and musician check-in
  • Assist the Camp Director with camper supervision and schedule facilitation during summer camp
  • Interface professionally with students, parents, and staff to ensure smooth operations
  • Interface with a group of 20 student interns at Summer Camp, occasionally delivering instruction and ensuring completion of tasks
  • Perform data entry
  • Assist with office and storage organization
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Must be 18 years or older (required)
  • Knowledge of music and orchestras
  • Strong organizational skills, professionalism, communication, and flexibility
  • Strong attention to details
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace tools
  • Reside in the greater Seattle/Bellevue area
  • High school diploma
  • Food Handlers Permit and/or ability to acquire before summer camp
  • Ability to be flexible and adapt to needs of students and organization

Preferred but not required:

  • Interest in a career in music/arts, management, or education
  • Experience working with children
  • Some college education
