Overview
Bellevue Youth Symphony Orchestra (BYSO) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization in Bellevue, Washington, established to provide a unique and stimulating musical environment for Eastside youth seeking to advance their potential beyond traditional in-school programs. Now with eight large orchestras and three smaller instrumental ensembles, BYSO has been serving students in elementary through high school since 1964. BYSO is a thriving, fiscally stable organization with a dedicated Board poised to further its Mission:
To enhance the lives of student musicians by providing dynamic musical experiences, fostering collaboration, confidence, and personal responsibility through the pursuit of artistic excellence.
BYSO focuses intensively on each student’s musicianship with a commitment to guide and support the whole person and uniquely complements and builds upon both school music programs and private instruction. BYSO is poised to grow from a local youth orchestra organization into a recognized, regional leader in youth orchestra. BYSO is a forward- looking organization, innovating and evaluating its organizational structure and infrastructure investments to broaden its reach and impact in the community while maintaining, at its core, a program focused upon expanding the capabilities of its student musicians. Position
The Assistant Camp Director provides support for the programmatic and administrative operations of Bellevue Youth Symphony Orchestra’s Summer Camp. Reporting to the Operations Associate, this position works in close collaboration with the Administrative Staff, Conducting Staff, Coaching Contractors, Students, Families, and Community to maintain BYSO’s guiding principal of supporting the whole child through participation in ensemble music-making.
Roughly 5 hours during the week of June 29th-July 3rd
July 6-10: (36 hours)
M: 7:30am – 3:00pm
T-Th: 8am – 3:00pm
F: 8am – 3:30pm
July 13-17: (39 hours)
M: 7:30am – 4:00pm
T-Th: 8am – 4:00pm
F: 8am – 4:30pm
July 20-24: (40 hours)
M: 7:30am – 4:15pm
T-Th: 8am – 4:15pm
F: 8am – 4:45pm
Compensation: $2,600 paid on the following schedule:
July 10 – $850.00
July 17 – $850.00
July 24 – $900.00
Core Responsibilities
- Assist Camp Director with the coordination and daily operations of summer camp
- Serve as an on-site leader all parties involved with camp
- Maintain a safe environment for students aged 5-18
- Collaborate and lead a group of high school-aged interns
- Lead games and activities for summer campers
- Help support good behavior among students
- Assist with check in and check out and parent communication
- Support rehearsals and performances, including setup, tear down, and student coordination
- Assist with supply management, including snacks, printed music, instrument repair items
- Other duties as assigned/required.
Qualifications
Required:
- Completion of some college coursework
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
- Ability to be proactive, take initiative, and be self-directed
- Leadership experience
- Must be 18 years or older
- Must be able to lift 30 lbs
Preferred:
- Experience working with children
- Interest in music performance, education, or administration
- Knowledge of orchestral rehearsal and concert etiquette, instrumentation, etc.
