Welcome to our last rehearsal schedule before our first Showcase Concert of the season!  Please note that the concert time has changed to 7:00pm on Sunday, November 23.  Call time is 5:30pm.  Location is Newport HS at 4333 Factoria Blvd SE, Bellevue, WA.  Formal concert attire.

Here’s our weekly update… from now on, I probably won’t send an email reminder to check the BYSO website… you’ll have to do that on your own!  Please have these dates/events marked on your calendars, and invite other flutists to attend!

Please add the following to your calendars, as well.  On Monday, November 3^rd – we’ll have “bring a flute-playing friend to BYSO” day.  We’d like to give other flutists a chance to see what the BYSO flute program is all about.  We’ll spend the first half of rehearsal practicing our caroling music, and then we’ll have an informative session with Jim Phelan (of Burkart-Phelan Flutes) who will talk about flute acoustics, engineering and maintenance.  We’ll end with some treats :). Please invite all your flute playing friends to join us!  Thanks!

Hi Flute Choir!

Just a reminder that next week I'll be hearing you play some spots on your own. 

First flutes:  mm. 77-82, 93-95 (with pickup), 97-99

Second flutes:  mm. 75-89, 93-95, 115-end

Third flutes:  mm. 82-86, 93-96, 115-end

Fourth flutes:  mm. 89-96, 115-end

Pay special attention to the rhythm!  It is the most important thing!

FLUTE ORCHESTRA (SANDY)

Hi flutists –

Please concentrate on Peter and the Wolf:  Entire Piece!

Be careful with accidentals - and practice in all the great adjustments we made last night.  Please remember our discussion about practicing in layers.  Once you’ve got the correct notes and rhythms learned,  then you can concentrate on:

1.       Articulations (how you tongue/slur/etc)

2.       Dynamics (written in and ‘musician added’)

3.       Tone/Intonation (use your tuner!)

4.       Breathing/Phrasing

5.       Appropriate Tempos

Also, please check your calendars.  BYSO Flute Orchestra members are invited to join SPU flutists for a performance at the Seattle Center for Winterfest on Tuesday, December 2^nd from 6:30 – 7:30 pm.  It would be great if you could perform!
