Awards

Charlotte Field Memorial Scholarship
This BYSO tuition scholarship was established in 2005 with funds from the Charlotte Field Memorial Trust to honor an outstanding graduate of BYSO. For 2006 the applicants need to be, or have been, a member of BYSO since Fall 2002 and need to be accepted as a full-time student to any accredited four year undergraduate college or university. Application forms and information are available after January 15 of each year, with the deadline of March 1 for completion. In keeping with our commitment to encourage the whole person, the recipient need not be a music major.

The 2007 recipient is Brett Russell (shown right), a graduate of Enumclaw School in Enumclaw, now enrolled at University of Idaho. The 2005 Winner was Spencer Cahoon, now enrolled at Brigham Young University. The 2006 Winner was Alyssa Williams now enrolled at Western Washington State University.

Frances Walton Youth Music Scholarship
Established in 1998 and sponsored by Thalia Allied Artists to honor our founding conductor, this scholarship is a merit based award for one student from each division who best exemplifies the qualities of BYSO and is chosen by the conductor of each orchestra.

Most Valuable Volunteer

A student began this award by asking why we didn't honor the parents who do all the work for BYSO as much as the students who receive the benefits. This award, chosen by the executive director, goes to a parent volunteer/s who has given to BYSO exemplary service over a one or two year period. BYSO absolutely could not exist without our wonderful volunteer corps. This is one way we say thank you.

2007 – Lisa Brown, for commitment to helping with anything anytime.

2006 – Mike Henderlight, for videography and DVD production.
2005 – Deanna Foran, for graphic design of programs, brochures, and print materials for our 40th anniversary season.
2004 – The Harp Daddies, for commitment to the Harp Ensemble in moving, setting up, and assenting their students at every concert.
2003 – Barbara Cahoon, for hosting the dessert concert and dessert auction for five years.

Five-Year Awards

Students who have been with BYSO for five years receive an award honoring their commitment. Five years can be 33% of their life at this age. This loyalty of service deserves attention and commendation.
